I'm trying to use my VCDS with my 2008 Audi A6 3.2 quattro. I just updated from v17.3 to v18.2. Never used my VCDS on my A6 -- I had used it on my S8 with great success last year.
I'm getting the error message port status ok, interface not found. The A6 key isn't working (only MMI starts, the dash stays off, likely a problem with the ignition module error code), so I used the bypass method highbeam/hazards/brake, but no luck.
I'm thinking maybe a driver issue, but unsure. It tried automatically downloading something, but it froze in the middle of the install.
I've hit a wall, and I need to clear my codes so I can use my A6 again. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Problem may caused by:
The interface in the cable is powered from the car, so it will not be found if the ignition is off. The port will be found, as was the case in OP's post, as this is powered by the computer. For a licensed cable you need to connect it to the car for the software to see the serial number, which is then stored by the software. 10.Right click over the VCDS icon properties run in administrator mode. Sometimes it may be necessary to select ‘run in compatibility in Windows 8. 11.Once opened, go to OPTIONS then user interface tab. (if it says interface not found try a different USB port or restart PC). 12.In the drop down menu, choose DO NOT CHECK UPDATES. I was able to register the VCDS 18.2.1 software successfully but now I can’t seem to get the port to work. Every time i plug the cable into the car and try to save the port, it tell me that the interface is not found. But when the cable is not plugged into the car, the port works fine. I have read many times were people get a inexpensive VAG COM cable and does not work with the free version of VCDS LITE I experience the same thing and found a good info on how to sep up the cable and my VCDS LITE works awesome and I can read the codes. Here is the info in order to help any one. VCDS 12.12 port status ok interface not found error: Chinese vagcom 12.12 check USB port test, it says: Port status OK, VCDS 12.12 interface not found, or need the license, and to register it. Why choose This VCDS 12.12 interface not found error: The old vagcom had 1-4 port and you had to set it to which ever one the computer had for your cable.

Uninstall all related software, and download the software below. And reinstall the software

Attention:
1.Computer time into 2013.10.1 (each software prompts to change the system time expired are to this time), turn off all network connections.
2.Please never connect it to Internet and update the software.
3.To avoid loss and damage of software data,please dont pull up and plug USB and OBD port during the use(open the software and communications within car).
